The Scrooby Rock takes pride of place in the village and pays tribute to the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed from Britain to America on board the Mayflower more than 400 years ago.
Scrooby Rock is a life-sized exact replica of the Plymouth Rock in Massachusets which is reputed to be the first footfall for the Mayflower voyagers in 1620. The original rock was laser scanned and the facsimile was cast in bronze and mounted on a steel plinth with a surround where the names of the voyagers are carved.
The Rock was created by renowned community artist Michael Johnson, and was officially unveiled on September 7th 2024. Michael, who lives in nearby Styrrup, has undertaken more than 200 commissions for rural and urban sites throughout the UK and Ireland.
